My Imperial Shih Tzu, Chanel, Tiffany and Sushi

I have had dogs all my life, Never had more then one at a time. I have never studied breeds before, I always got what I liked at the moment.

Puppies are always beautiful, they are playful and you just can't help to like them, BUT at a certain point they grow and for one reason or another, I ended up with dogs that were not suited for my lifestyle. I have had destructive dogs, that chewed all my furniture etc. But I have loved them just the same.

As I got older it was time to get another dog, I live alone and I am not young anymore. My son suggested that this time I should surf the net and check the right breed for me, don't just get any dog.

I followed his advice and discovered that the Shih Tzu was perfect for me.

Yes he requires lots of grooming, but that doesn't bother me. I got my first male, and named him Sushi. I fell so much in love with this breed that one wasn't enough! He was so sweet and silent, he first barked at the age of 6 months. Playful but not pushy, never chewed a shoe or my furniture.

I had to have another one, got my second one Chanel, then another one Tiffany. I have heard of this breed before but really didn't know anything about it.

Now I have my little furry family, and I realized that my son was right, you just can't get any dog, you have to get the right one for you. As far as I am concerned once a Shih Tzu always a Shih Tzu.

Hi, Janice here from Small Dog Place.

Gabriella, Great Post! I couldn't agree with you more. This is a great breed for a wide variety of people, from singles to couples to families with children to Seniors and everyone in between. They are also so flexible that they thrive in all different types of homes -- apartments, urban, suburban, country, you name it.

You know what they say, "Shih Tzu" are like potato chips, you can never just have one!"

Oh, and by the way, I own a Shih Tzu named Gabriella, but we call her Gabby for short.

I came across this page with my Sushi, he is now 14 years old and still healthy and strong. Thank you for the credits, not everyone gives credit where credit is due.
